About Us

The Orthodox Jewish Research Institute (OJR), has been created specifically to address the needs of the frum public. Its surveys are the first scientifically designed poll focusing specifically on the needs and preferences of the Orthodox Jewish community.

Surveys are modeled on fascinating scientific wisdom that enables political campaigns, organizations and marketing firms to feel the pulse of the public and tailor their programs accordingly.

Pollsters choose a small pool of people, typically between 700 and 2,000, carefully designed to represent the larger population. In America, the pool may include a sample that proportionally represents African Americans and Latinos, for example. A political survey may be designed to include an equal number of Democrats and Republicans. To collect accurate data, the OJR Institute has established models and samples of the numerous types within the orthodox Jewish communities. Scientifically conducted surveys are considered highly accurate representations of the larger picture – so much so that the margin of error can be computed, usually at just 3-4%.

The OJR Questionnaires are sent to addresses chosen by the customized computer algorithms. The surveys are conducted by mail only, to ensure that each person fills out only one questionnaire. This allows us to produce a highly accurate picture of the interests, needs and preferences of the orthodox community. The surveys are highly compartmentalized, with individualized results for each neighborhood reported separately.

The OJR surveys are based on single-source data, which is the most desired type of data for conclusive results. Single-source means that all the information on the database is derived from one source, one person that answers detailed questions on all subject areas. OJR is sensitive to the privacy of its participants. We realize the high importance of your answers remaining completely confidential. For this reason, the questionnaires do not ask for the name or any other identifying information of the respondent.

In order to maintain the scientific accuracy of the survey without threatening the respondents’ privacy, OJR developed a system under which every questionnaire has a unique respondent code number. Those who handle the questionnaires and analyze them will not have any access to the respondents’ identities, only the code number.

Using that code number, every participant who submits a completed questionnaire is entered into a raffle for $5,000 cash or a round-trip ticket for two—business class—to Israel. Since only a small percentage of the community receives the survey, that makes the chances of winning much higher than a typical raffle. Once the survey is completed, the winning respondent numbers are publicized so the winner can contact OJR and claim the prize.

The OJR Institute makes its services and survey data available to companies and businesses so they can fine-tune their products and services according to the preferences of the community. For further information, please contact us.
